Punic wars

The Punic Wars were a series of wars fought between the Roman Republicand the Carthaginian Empire during the period 264 to 146 BC.

  • First (264–241 BC): Rome and Carthage fight over Sicily. Rome wins and takes the island.


  • Second (218–201 BC): Hannibal crosses the Alps and defeats Rome several times in Italy, but Scipio Africanus defeats him at Zama (202 BC). Rome wins and dominates the western Mediterranean.


  • Third (149–146 BC): Rome directly attacks Carthage, besieges it, and destroys it completely.



👉 Result: Rome eliminates Carthage and becomes the dominant power in the Mediterranean.
