The 3 unmissable events in “Carthaginians and Romans”

The wedding of Hannibal and Himilce (Monday)

The Betrothal between the Carthaginian general Hannibal and the Iberian princess Himilce is reenacted. With this strategic maneuver the young Hannibal Barca obtained the trust of the Iberian people.

After the wedding, and back into the camp, the nuptial banquet takes off and we will also have the chance to celebrate your own wedding according to the Punic rites and traditions.

Landing of the Carthaginian Fleet and Hannibal’s march towards Rome (Thursday)

This event represents the hiring of mercenaries for the Carthaginian army that General Hannibal completed before going to fight in Roman territory. The general offered a tribute (present) to the troops to convince them of fighting with him. The tribute is followed by a military march to the camp, as when Hannibal went with his army towards Rome.

It is a commemoration of the trip of the army and  the elephants to the Roman capital.

Battle of Qart Hadasht (Friday)

Roman legions  arrive at the city by boat and then, the Great Battle for Qart Hadasht starts. All  Carthaginians and Romans  take part in this event. We will see a fascinating combat with armors and weapons like falcatas, swords, shields, or arrows. Finally, Scipio, with a bigger army, takes the city, as it happened 2000 years ago.

Carthaginians and Romans festival

Carthaginians and Romans is a festival celebrated in the city of Cartagena, in Spain in the camp, located next to the Estadio Cartagonova. For ten days during the second half of September you will find yourself in the middle of the Second Punic War. Hundreds of participants get dressed with costumes of roman soldiers and carthaginian warriors to recall a significant period of the history.

The event begins with the foundation of the city by the Carthaginian general and ends with the conquest of the city by the Romans. For ten “fighting” days, troops and legions march through the city and the streets are clashing with weapons, parades in costumes, music, dance and good street food. There is also a funfair for children and adults.

The Carthaginians are: Hannibal, Hasdrubal and Himilce.

The Romans are: Scipio and Aemilia Paulla.
